Portadown Firm Helps People Get Ship Shape At Tall Ships Maritime Festival

At the Tall Ships Maritime Festival in Belfast 13-16th August 2009, the Energy Saving Trust advised thousands of visitors on how they could save hundreds of pounds every year just by taking a few simple energy saving measures around the home.

It was thanks to Kingspan Renewables, who have just relocated to Portadown, that this fantastic service was able to be offered, as they supplied a range of materials for use in the Energy Saving Home at Custom House Square in the City.

Head of the Energy Saving Trust in Northern Ireland Noel Williams explained: “As official sponsors of the ‘Gateway to the Tall Ships’ we erected our ‘Energy Saving Home’ so members of the public could visit us to get advice on how to save energy around the home and save up to £330 a year on household bills.

“Kingspan Renewables kindly lent us a range of equipment to kit-out the house, making it possible to provide this invaluable service to thousands of people who attended the Festival.”

Mr Williams continued: “We were delighted to have had the support of Kingspan Renewables for our Energy Saving Home. Northern Ireland is gearing up for a greener future, and we want to help householders play a central role in this.”

Sara Magee, Marketing Manager of Kingspan Renewables added: “It was a pleasure to have been able to support the Energy Saving Trust initiative at the Maritime Festival.

“We provided our innovative, world-leading Thermomax solar thermal vacuum collectors for the Energy Saving Home. These provide up to 70% of your annual hot water, are 30% more effective than a flat plate solar panel, and have been designed to work efficiently in northern European climates.

“The Energy Saving House provided an excellent opportunity for consumers to find out how to save money and help the environment.”

Notes to Editors - About The Energy Saving Trust

The Energy Saving Trust is the leading organisation set up to address the damaging effects of climate change by helping everybody prevent energy waste and thereby cut carbon dioxide emissions – the main greenhouse gas causing climate change – from their homes. It promotes the efficient use of energy and a more low carbon lifestyle.

The Energy Saving Trust, through its Northern Ireland ‘One-Stop-Shop’ advice centre, provides free and impartial advice to consumers on saving energy, domestic renewables and greener transport, and is beginning to include water saving and waste reduction advice in its remit.

The Energy Saving Trust also works with retailers, builders and industry to make sure that energy efficient products are available for people to choose as well as advising government on policies that are needed to cut greenhouse gases.
